How to drink your morning coffee in peace?

I bet that knowing how to have a morning coffee in peace or 15 minutes of quiet time in the morning is every parent's fervent wish. It's a rare circumstance almost akin to seeing a unicorn, but I have a pretty sure recipe for this.

Toy Exchange Capsule!

A capsule means that some of the toys are hidden out of sight. Even a couple of months is enough to create the fascination of novelty and the joy of play when these "old" toys are encountered again.

Less toys have been shown to increase the quality of play, so you can go into this experiment with confidence.

There are countless benefits to using a capsule (ecology, saving money, teaching moderation, improving concentration, creating a play space...), but from an adult's point of view, the best thing is the potential peace that the appearance of jelly toys brings.

Unfortunately, it does not solve sibling problems, there are different ways to do that and more on that later. But the joy, the joy of reunion and play! Try it!

How do I make a toy changing capsule?

Consult your child about the most important toys NOW - these will stay active. Take at least half of the toys apart (categorise toys by play).

Pack toys by category (e.g. dolls, food play, train track) and put the toys somewhere where an adult can pick them up.

Sort and organise the remaining toys with your child, categorising them at the child's height so that the child can put them away. Go over with your child which active toys live where.

Hide replacement capsule toys for a couple of months. When your child gets bored with their current toys, head to the swap toys instead of the store and bring back a new category of toys. While you're at it, recycle something that feels old: agree with your child which category will go on hiatus. Voila, play can begin!

Capsule toys invite you to play. After a few months of hiding, the toys are as good as new!

Our evening calmed down when I dug out a dublo from the junk. The 8, 5 and 2 year olds all went at it on the floor and the play took over. The same thing happened again this morning!

Sometimes you surprise yourself how little peace at home depends on. Read my article about How to declutter toys.
